알라키가 국내에서 입소문을 타기 시작하면서 슬슬 접근성이 떨어져 가던 작년 이맘때쯤,

우연찮게 글렌알라키 10년 CS 배치 5번을 마셔보고 감동의 눈물을 좍좍 흘리고,

어머! 이건 사야되! 월급 털어서 남대문 가즈아ㅏㅏㅏㅏㅏ!!!

하고 호다닥 뛰쳐가서 당당하게 쏴좡님! 글렌알라키 10년 CS 배치 5번! 얼맙니꼬!!!? 했더니,

그 당시 30만원 넘게 부르길래 굉장히 당황했지만 흔들리는 동공을 부여잡고, 아무렇지 않은척 태연하게 다시

아하앗 재성합니다!자..잘못말햇어요 배치6번이요! 배치6번 얼맙니꼬!?했더니,

그 당시 20만원 중반 정도를 부르길래, 아니 무슨 아무리 맛도리로 소문이 났어도10년따리 CS가 20만원 중반이 넘어

가!!??라고 아무도 안들리게 속으로 소리 지르고 겉으론 태연하고 얌전하게,

아..아앗 재..재성합니다! 자..잘못말했어요 배..배치7번이요 하하 배치7번 얼맙니꼬....?

했더니 그 당시 17만원정도를 부르길래 배치 5번 사러갔다가 뜬금없이 대신 가져왔던,

때깔이 굉장히 곱다야

재작년말 부터 시작해서 작년까지도 위스키 시세가 '오늘이 제일 싸다' 수준으로

매일매일 치솟던 때였어서, 급격하게 오르는 시세를 적응해 나가야 하던 시기라,

(지금은 슬프지만 적응...완료...)

조금 비싸다 싶은 감은 있었지만 어쨌든 오랜만의 남대문이라 어쩔수 없이 눈물 젖은 축축한 지폐를 건내드리며 한 보틀

받아왔었다.

(근데 요즘 배치 7번 시세가 20만원 중반 정도 하는거 같아서 히히 심심한 위로가 된....응?)

배치5번 보틀을 가지고 있었더라면 비교 시음하며 경험해 봤을텐데 그 부분은 조금 아쉽지만,

어쨌든 개인적으로는 7번도 상당히 맛은 괜찮은 편이다.

(이후에 8번 배치도 살까 고민했었는데, 잔술로 마셔보고 더이상 고려하지 않았다...)

우선 CS이기 때문에 첫 뚜따보단 에어레이션이 된 상태의 이야기를 해보자면,
우선 향에서부터 알라키 증류소가 표현 하고자 하는 향들은 다 표현되는것 같다.

말린 과일, 알라키표 초콜렛향, 옅은 시트러스, 꾸덕진 셰리, 거기에 저숙성 CS 임을 감안했을때 거부감 드는 부즈도 크게

안느껴진다.

근데 이제 어렴풋한 한잔의 기억을 떠올리며 얘기하자면,

배치 5번은 향부터 끌고온 기대감을 그대로 맛부터 피니쉬까지 깔끔하게 나아가는 타입이라면,

배치 7번은 여기서 약간의 차이를 보이는데,

맛도 향 만큼 초반엔 굉장히 기분좋은 초콜릿 느낌, 꿀 같은 달달함, 그리고 오렌지필이 살짝 묻은 느낌의 시트러스에 스파

이시도 크게 느껴지지 않으면서 굉장히 만족스럽긴 한데 이게 피니쉬로 이어지기 직전의 맛 끝이 살짝 비어있다. 이런 느

낌이 맞는건지는 잘 모르겠지만 맛의 끝과 피니쉬의 시작이 아주 살짝 끊겨있는 느낌이다.

이 부분만 매끄럽게 이어지면 정말 금상첨화 일텐데 살짝 아쉬운 부분이다.

(하지만 그렇다고 배치5번이 배치7번의 두배 가격을 지불 해야할 만큼의 차이는 아니라고 봄...)

피니쉬는 향긋한 셰리로 마무리되고, 여운이 막 긴 편은 아니다.

10년숙성년수 치고는 아주 만족스럽다!

음...생각해보면 배치 7번도 뭐 이제서야,

위스키 시세가 뭐 막엉망진창이 된 요즘에서야 생각해보자면,

20만원 중반까진 아니여도 10만원 후반대 정도의 위스키라고 생각하면 아주 아주 훌륭한 제품임은 확실하다.

(그 가격에 또 사먹고싶...한병 더 살껄...흑흑....)

배치 8번은 잔술로 마셔보고 약간 실망했는데, 9번은 또 어떨지 모르겠다.

배치로 나오는 술들은 각 배치마다 맛들이 매번 틀려버리니...

조만간 잔술로 배치9도 마셔보고 결정해야겠다.

Around this time last year, when Allachie was starting to get buzz in Korea and was slowly getting harder to get hold of,

I happened to try GlenAllachie 10 CS batch 5 and shed buckets of tears of joy,

and went, OMG! I have to buy this! Blowing my paycheck, let's gooooo to Namdaemun!!!!!

So I dashed over and confidently asked, Bossss! GlenAllachie 10 CS batch 5! How muuuch!!!?

and they quoted over 300,000 won at the time, which really threw me, but I got a grip on my trembling pupils and, acting like nothing happened, calmly asked again,

Ahaha, sowwy! I m-misspoke, I meant batch 6! How much for batch 6!?

and they quoted around the mid 200,000s at the time, so I screamed inside where no one could hear, No matter how famous it is for being tasty, a measly 10-year CS for over the mid 200,000s!!??, while outwardly staying calm and well-behaved,

A-ah, s-sowwy! I m-misspoke, b-batch 7, I meant, haha, how much for batch 7....?

and they quoted about 170,000 won at the time, so I went to buy batch 5 and randomly came home with this instead:

From the end of the year before last right through last year, whisky prices were soaring every single day at a 'today is the cheapest it'll ever be' level,

so it was a time when I had to adapt to rapidly rising prices,

(sadly, now... fully... adapted...)

It felt a bit pricey, but anyway it was my first trip to Namdaemun in a while, so I had no choice but to hand over my damp, tear-soaked bills and bring home a bottle.

(But these days batch 7 seems to go for around the mid 200,000s, so hehe, it's a small consolation.... huh?)

If I'd had a bottle of batch 5 I could've done a side-by-side tasting, so that part's a bit of a shame,

but anyway, personally I think batch 7 tastes pretty good too.

(Afterwards I thought about buying batch 8 too, but after trying it by the glass I stopped considering it...)

First, since it's CS, I'll talk about it after it's had some air rather than right at the first opening:
starting with the nose, it seems to express all the aromas the Allachie distillery is going for.

Dried fruit, Allachie-brand chocolate, faint citrus, thick sherry, and on top of that, considering it's a young CS, there's hardly any off-putting booze.

But now, speaking from my hazy memory of that one glass,

if batch 5 is the type that carries the expectations built by the nose cleanly through the palate all the way to the finish,

batch 7 shows a slight difference here:

on the palate, just like the nose, it starts with a really pleasant chocolate feel, honey-like sweetness, and citrus with a touch of orange peel, without much spice, and it's very satisfying, but the tail end of the palate right before it leads into the finish is slightly hollow. I'm not sure that's the right way to put it, but it feels like the end of the palate and the start of the finish are ever so slightly disconnected.

If only this part flowed smoothly it'd be the icing on the cake, so it's a bit of a letdown.

(But that said, I don't think the difference is big enough that batch 5 is worth paying double batch 7's price...)

The finish wraps up with fragrant sherry, and the aftertaste isn't especially long.

Very satisfying for a 10-year-old!

Hmm... thinking about it, batch 7 too, well, only now,

in these days when whisky prices have become a total mess, thinking about it,

if you think of it as a whisky in the high 100,000s, not even the mid 200,000s, it's definitely a very, very excellent product.

(I want to buy it again at that price... should've bought one more... sob sob....)

I tried batch 8 by the glass and was a little disappointed; no idea what batch 9 will be like.

With whiskies released in batches, the flavor changes every single batch...

I should try batch 9 by the glass soon and then decide.

Sir, did you by any chance use up all the good sherry casks at the distillery by now...?

Is that why you're running low these days and throwing every other kind of oak cask around?

It's not, right? Tell me it's not...
