글렌알라키 18년

리뉴얼 되기 전에는 그렇게 찾기 어렵던 18년 숙성 제품이였는데 리뉴얼되서 물량을 많이 푼건지, 코로나 이후로 위스키 열풍이 식어버린 탓인지 이제는 마음먹음 쉽게 구할 수 있는 제품이다.

코어레인지에선 바로 밑 동생 격인 글렌알라키 15년이 그 수준의 위스키들 중에선 꽤 맛있었기 때문에 너무 궁금했던 위스키.

리뉴얼 되서 초반에 나오자마자 사놨다가 이제서야 마셔봄.

노즈는 옅은 바닐라를 배경으로 진한 과일, 많이 졸여낸 베리류의 향기가 지배적이다. 부즈는 크게 느껴지진 않음. 깊게 들여마시면 계피의 기운도 살짝 감돈다.

혀에 닿자마자는 글렌모렌지 같은 향긋함이 느껴지는데 오래가진 않고 진득한 버터스카치와 견과류의 고소함, 알라키표 다크초콜릿이 느껴지고 혀끝으로 미지근한 꿀을 한숟가락 퍼먹은 느낌도 든다. 약간의 스파이시함도 있음.

피니쉬는 기대한것만큼 길고 꾸준한 편은 아니지만, 예전에 어릴때 많이 먹었던 땅콩크림빵에서 느껴졌던 여운들이 느껴진다.

두 세모금 마시다 보면 맛에 집중이 많이 된 제품이라고 느껴짐.

노즈와 피니쉬보다 혀에서 더 복잡하고 다양한 것들을 보여준다.

뭔가 어둑하고 쿰쿰하고 나무나무하고 가죽같은 그런 느낌들과는 다르게 향긋하지만 무게감있는 달달~~~한 셰리 느낌, px캐스크를 많이 쓴 위스키들에서 자주 느낄 수 있는 그런 맛과 향이다.

물론 알라키는 사랑이고 모든 코어레인지 제품을 좋아하지만 아무래도 알라키18년 숙성에 대한 내 기대가 너무 컸던 모양이다.

뭐 이런 느낌까진 아니고 요즘 구할 수 있는 가격 생각 하면 완전 실패는 아니다 싶은 정도...

그래도 이제 마시기 시작했으니 천천히 비우며 더 찾아보겠습니다 빌리워커 어르신.

Before the renewal, this 18-year-old was so hard to find, but whether they released a lot more stock after the renewal or the whisky craze cooled off after COVID, now it's easy to get if you set your mind to it.

In the core range, its little brother right below it, GlenAllachie 15, was pretty tasty compared to whiskies at that level, so I was super curious about this one.

I bought it as soon as the renewed version came out, and only now got around to drinking it.

The nose is dominated by deep fruit and heavily reduced berries against a backdrop of light vanilla. Not much booze. Breathe in deep and there's a slight hint of cinnamon too.

The moment it hits the tongue there's a Glenmorangie-like fragrance, but it doesn't last long; then come thick butterscotch, nutty richness and Allachie-brand dark chocolate, and on the tip of the tongue it feels like eating a spoonful of lukewarm honey. A bit of spice too.

The finish isn't as long and steady as I'd hoped, but it has the lingering notes I remember from the peanut cream buns I ate a lot as a kid.

After two or three sips, it feels like a whisky that really focused on flavor.

It shows more complex and varied things on the tongue than on the nose and finish.

Unlike those dark, musty, woody, leathery kinds of vibes, it's a fragrant but weighty, swe~~~et sherry feel, the kind of flavor and aroma you often find in whiskies that use a lot of PX casks.

Of course Allachie is love and I like every core range product, but I guess my expectations for the Allachie 18 were just too high.
It's not quite at the level of OMG amazing, incredible, as expected Billy Walker you absolute madman!!!! waaah I love youuu T_T
It's more like, considering the price you can get it for these days, it's not a total fail...

Still, I've only just started it, so I'll empty it slowly and explore it more, Billy Walker, sir.
My palate is still way too green.🫠🫠
