스프링뱅크 8년 로컬발리 — 바쇼 라운지

서울바쇼 라운지에서 마신 위스키 4종 혹시나 까먹을까봐 기록용으로 아주 간단하게 남겨봄.

1. 스프링뱅크 8년 로컬발리 2024 58.1%

우선 색상을 보아하니 버번캐스크거나 섞여있을 가능성이 농후해보이는 옅은 호박색 너낌.

숙성년수 때문인지 아주 옅은 부즈가 있으나 거슬리지 않음.
스프링뱅크 답게 간드러지는 피트감.

킬커란/스뱅에서만 느껴지는 그 특유의 와인의 탄닌같은 묘한 스파이시가 잘 살아있음.
매움과 떫음 그 사이 어딘가.

전체적으로는 큼큼한 몰트향이 주를 이루고 뒤에 옅게 과실느낌의 산뜻함이 있음.

피니쉬도 그냥 딱 맛과향에서 느껴지는 수준까지.

사실 자세한 정보는 모르고 마신거라 늘 그렇듯 맛도좋고 다 좋은 스프링뱅크지만 얼마인지 자세히는 모르겠으나 혹여나 30만원대 이상의 터무니없는 가격이라면 좀 문제이지 싶다.
그 정도의 가치를 하는 제품은 아닌듯.

발베니 13년 모스카텔 40%(사진못찍었다😭)

엔트리 깡패 12년 더블우드보다 향에서 단향이 더 올라옴.
발베니 특유의 벌꿀같은 향이 밑에 옅게 깔려있고 와인의 끈적함이덮어져있다.

역시 가격이 얼마인지 모르겠지만 만약 12년 더블우드와 가격이 비슷하다면 자주 사먹고 싶다. 12년 더블우드보다 1년숙성이 더되서 1년치만큼 더 비싸다면 그 부분도 수용 할 수 있을정도.

스파이시가 없어서 그쪽으로 불호가 있는 사람들도 좋아할듯.
맛의 끝부분에서 부드러움이 강조됨.
피니쉬는 쏘쏘.
전체적으로 괜찮음.
발베니스러움.
잘만든것 같음.

스프링뱅크12년 cs 2025 batch27 55.9%

색상은 같은날 마신 8년 로컬발리랑 비슷한게 캐스크가 뭐뭐가 쓰인진 모르겠지만 비슷한 조합이지 싶다.
라벨 색상이 빨간색인거에 비하면 실망스런 위스키 컬러.

노즈에서 8년 로컬발리보다 전체적으로 향의 힘이 강한편.
CS들이 확실히 향에 힘이 좋은듯.

혀에서는 여전히 스뱅 특유의 기분좋은 스파이시와 떪음 그사이가 있음.

어쩌다보니 같은날 마신 로컬발리랑 비교하게 되지만,
적어도 맛에서 만큼은 12년cs가 훨 내 취향이였다.

적당한스파이시에 cs임이 느껴지는 도수감.
잔으로 마셔봤지만 분명 보틀로 두고두고 마시면 마실수록 좋아질 스타일.
한잔으로도 만족감 줄만한 술.

이날 라운지에서 마신 위스키중에 유일하게 보틀구입해볼까 고민했던 제품.
가격만 적당하다면 보틀구입해서 두고두고 변화를 즐겨보고싶음.

옥토모어 15.1 59.1%

피트의 끝이라는 소리를 어디선가 꾸준히 보고 들어와서 매우 궁금했던 옥토모어.

당연하겠지만 향부터 피트피트이긴 한데 이미 어느 임계점을 넘어서버린건지 기대하게 만들었던 페놀수치만큼의 피트감이 다가오지 않음.
너무기대가컸나.
사실 코에 가져다 대는 순간 피트를 처음 마주했을때의 모습으로 돌아가는것은 아닐까 하는 묘한 기대감과 설레임이 있었는데,
그저 기분좋게 킁킁댈수 있을 정도였다.
어쩌면 내가 절여져버린건가싶고...아쉽다.

하지만 강려크한 피트인건 사실.
맛은 진정 피트위스키.

이날 마신 그전의 위스키들을 다 지울만큼의 피트지만 기분좋은 피트감이였다.

스파이시가 있지만 따끔쓰한 정도는 아님.
그리고 강력한 피트뒤로 의외로 맛에 밸런스가 좋은듯.

피니쉬는 초반에 기존 피트에서는 못느껴본 묘한 향이 올라왔는데 독특했음. 몇잔 더 마셔 봐야 그게 뭐였는지 알것 같은데 한잔으론 설명을 못하겠다.

전체적으로 강려크한 피트감속에서 묘하게 잡혀있는 밸런스가 좋은 제품이라 보틀로 사마셔볼까 싶었...지만 개인적으로는 비싼 피트위스키는 비호라서 사먹을거 같진 않고 그냥 어느날 내가 내돈 주고 산것도 아닌데 그냥 우리집에 예쁘게 서있었음 좋겠다 싶었음.

라운지에서 한잔씩 마셔본 위스키들 기록은 이렇게 끝!

Four whiskies I drank at the Seoul Bar & Spirit Show lounge — jotting down some very brief notes for the record, just in case I forget.

1. Springbank 8 Local Barley 2024 58.1%

First off, judging by the color, it's a pale amber that strongly suggests bourbon casks, or at least a mix.

Maybe because of its age there's a very faint booziness, but it's not bothersome.
A delicate, lilting peat, as you'd expect from Springbank.

That peculiar spiciness, like wine tannins, that you only get from Kilkerran/Springbank is really alive here.
Somewhere between spicy and astringent.

Overall a musty, malty aroma leads, with a faint fresh fruitiness behind it.

The finish goes only as far as what you get on the palate and nose.

Honestly I drank it without knowing the details, so, like always, it's Springbank — tasty and all good — but I don't know exactly what it costs; if it's some ridiculous price over 300,000 won, I think that's a bit of a problem.
I don't think it's worth that much.

Balvenie 13 Moscatel 40% (didn't get a photo😭)

More sweetness comes up on the nose than with the entry-level bully, the 12 DoubleWood.
That signature Balvenie honey-like note sits faintly underneath, blanketed by the stickiness of wine.

Again, I don't know what it costs, but if it's priced similarly to the 12 DoubleWood I'd buy it often. Even if it's pricier by about a year's worth for having one more year of aging than the 12 DoubleWood, I could live with that.

There's no spiciness, so people who don't like spice will probably like it too.
Smoothness is emphasized at the tail end of the palate.
The finish is so-so.
Decent overall.
Very Balvenie.
Seems well made.

Springbank 12 CS 2025 Batch 27 55.9%

The color is similar to the 8 Local Barley I had the same day; I don't know which casks were used, but I'd guess a similar combo.
A disappointing whisky color, considering the label is red.

On the nose, the aromas are overall more powerful than the 8 Local Barley.
Cask strengths definitely have more punch on the nose.

On the tongue there's still that signature, pleasant Springbank zone somewhere between spicy and astringent.

I somehow ended up comparing it with the Local Barley I had the same day,
but at least on taste, the 12 CS was way more my style.

Moderate spice and an ABV that reminds you it's a cask strength.
I had it by the glass, but it's definitely the kind that would get better and better the longer you kept a bottle and drank it over time.
A dram that satisfies even with one glass.

The only whisky I had in the lounge that day that made me think about buying a bottle.
If the price is reasonable, I'd like to buy a bottle and enjoy how it changes over time.

Octomore 15.1 59.1%

Octomore — I was super curious about this one because I'd constantly seen and heard it called the ultimate peat.

Naturally it's peat, peat, peat right from the nose, but maybe it's already gone past some critical point, because the peat didn't hit as hard as the phenol numbers had me expecting.
Maybe I expected too much.
Honestly, the moment I brought it to my nose, I had this strange anticipation and excitement that I might go right back to how I felt when I first encountered peat,
but it was just enough to happily sniff away at.
Maybe my palate's already pickled... that's a shame.

But it's true it's powerful peat.
On the palate, a true peated whisky.
Peat peat BOOM BOOM!😤😤

Peat strong enough to wipe out every whisky I'd drunk before it that day, but it was a pleasant peatiness.

There's spice, but not to the point of stinging.
And behind the powerful peat, the palate is surprisingly well balanced.

Early in the finish, a strange aroma I'd never felt in other peated whiskies came up — it was unique. I think I'd need a few more glasses to figure out what it was; I can't describe it from just one.

Overall, it's a product with a nice balance that's somehow held together inside all that powerful peat, so I thought about buying a bottle... but personally I'm not into expensive peated whisky, so I don't think I'd buy it — I just wish that one day a bottle I didn't pay for would be standing pretty in my house.

And that's the end of my notes on the whiskies I tried by the glass at the lounge!
