벤리악 12년 쓰리캐스크

“위스키 많이 안마셔봤는데 뭐가좋을까요? 너무비싼거 말구요.”

의 질문에 요즘 내가 추천하는 리스트에 빠지지 않는 제품.

벤리악 12년(three cask matured).

최애증류소 글렌드로낙 현 마스터블랜더 레이첼누나의 12년 작품.

가성비로 이만한게 없지 싶은...🤔

뚜따를 해도 저숙성에서 느껴지는 불편한 부즈가 크게 느껴지지 않지만 그래도 잔에 따르고 5분후에 마시는게 본격적이니 추천.

코를 박으면 꿀내음이 가득 들어옴. 발베니 12년 더블우드, 혹은 글렌피딕 15년에서 느껴지는 달달함과 상큼함이 느껴짐.

팔렛 초반에는 왜 제주도 가서 먹어본 사람들은 알겠지만 귤 구워먹으면 시트러스가 살짝 줄고 단내가 폭발하고 묘하게 구수한 맛이 나는데, 그 구운 귤 한조각 먹는 느낌이 살짝 들고, 후반에는 청사과같은 상큼함을 느낄수 있음.

피니쉬에서는 적당한 몰트향으로 깊진 않지만, 일부로 46도로 맞춘건지 야무지게 뽑아내는 느낌.
40도로 출시했으면 절대 못느낄 부분.🫠🫠

12년의 상대적인 저숙성에 셰리,버번,포트조합.
이런 여러캐스크 조합은 개인적으로는 버번캐스크 캐릭터가 가장 강한법인데,
이건 셋다 자기주장이 뚜렷하지않고 묘하게 서로 바탕이고 싶어함.

장점은 셋다 느껴지고, 단점은 셋다 약함.

하지만 단점은 아무 문제 없을 만큼 잘 쌓인 레이어와 가격!

글렌드로낙 오리지널 12년과는 또 묘하게 다른,

남들에게 추천할만한 엔트리&데일리 위스키라고 생각듬.

"I haven't had much whisky yet, what would be good? Nothing too expensive, please."

To that question, this is the one that never drops off my recommendation list these days.

BenRiach 12 (Three Cask Matured).

A 12-year-old creation by big sis Rachel, current master blender of my favourite distillery, GlenDronach.

Value-wise, I don't think anything really beats it... 🤔

Even right after opening the bottle you don't get much of that uncomfortable booze you'd expect from a young whisky, but I still recommend pouring it and waiting 5 minutes before drinking for the real deal.

Stick your nose in and it's full of honey. You get the sweetness and freshness you find in Balvenie 12 DoubleWood or Glenfiddich 15.

Early on the palate - anyone who's been to Jeju and tried it will know this - when you grill tangerines, the citrus drops a little, the sweetness explodes, and you get an oddly toasty, savoury flavour; it feels a bit like eating a slice of that grilled tangerine. Later on you get a green-apple-like freshness.

On the finish there's a moderate malt note, not deep, but it feels neatly squeezed out - maybe that's why they deliberately bottled it at 46%.
Something you'd never get if it had been released at 40%. 🫠🫠

A relatively young 12 years, with a sherry, bourbon and port combination.
Personally, in these multi-cask combos the bourbon cask character is usually the strongest,
but here none of the three is very assertive, and oddly they all want to be the backdrop for each other.

The upside is you can taste all three; the downside is all three are weak.

But the downside is no problem at all, thanks to the nicely stacked layers and the price!

Subtly different again from GlenDronach Original 12,

I think it's an entry & daily whisky well worth recommending to others.
