작년 말 굉장히 추웠던 그 어느날,

산책을 마치고 돌아오는길에,

와인앤모어라고 쓰고,

참새(참미ㅊ새ㄲ 줄임말 아님?)가 방앗간이라고 읽는 그곳으로 푸드덕 뛰어들어갔다.

당연히 그냥 날도 춥고 하니까 들어가서 몸도 좀 녹이고 마음도 좀 녹이고 지갑도 좀 녹이려아아아니야!!

어쨌든 몸을 좀 녹이면서 구경을 좀 하다보니 한켠에 행사상품이 보이는데 가격이 좀 이상해서 갑자기 따뜻한곳에 들어와

서 눈에 습기가 꼈나 싶어서 눈을 비비고 다시 봐도 그 가격이라서 어쩔수 없이 꽤 긴시간(5초정도?)고민 후 한병을 집어

들었다 아니 두병을 집어들었다 아니 세병을 집어들었그..그만해!!

한병,두병,세응??

존재에 대해선 이미 여기저기서 가성비 위스키라고 소문나서 알고는 있었지만 그렇게 크게 관심은 없었는데 날이 추웠던

탓인지 가격 탓인지는 모르겠으나 무언가에 홀렸던 것 같다.

Grant's Triple Wood

그란츠 트리플우드

윌리엄그랜트앤선즈에 속해있는 증류소들의(글렌피딕,발베니등등) 위스키들을 짬뽕해서 만들었을 블렌디드 스카치 위스

키다.

병 모양도 글렌피딕의 맛과 향이 날 것만 같은 삼각형의 모습을 하고 있다.

그란츠 트리플우드는 버진오크, 아메리칸오크, 버번리필캐스크 세가지를 쓴다고함.

병뚜껑은 당연히 스크류타입.

블렌디드는 역시 온더락잔이줴

낄낄 이거 아주 재미지겠구먼!?

뚜껑을 비틀고 한잔 골골 따라보면 전체적인 노즈 캐릭터들이 얉은 편이고 알콜부즈가 살짝 올라오며, 정리가 좀 덜 된 듯

한 몰트의 향이 치고 들어온다.

하지만 이제 여기서 내가 구매한 가격을 머리속에 되뇌이고 다시 맡아보면 꽤 부드럽고 달콤한 향이 맴돈다.

블렌디드 스카치 위스키 / 40% / 1L / 16,500원

이걸 머리속에 인지하고 맡으면 이만한 위스키도 없지 싶다.

맛도 향에 부합하며 전체적으로 맛의 깊이가 깊진 않지만 꽃같은 화사함과 몰트,달달함을 가지고 있다.

그리고 블렌디드라 그런지 혀 부터 식도에 닿을때까지 부드럽게 넘어간다.

피니쉬도 여운이 조금 있지만 숨안쉬고 계속 가둬두고 싶고 뭐 막 그런 느낌은 아니다.

그냥 좀 달달함 정도.

(가격에 지배당해버린 혀와 뇌가 쓴 시음기같...)

니트로 마셔본 느낌으로는 약간 뭐랄까...

블렌디드 위스키에 보리차를 부어넣은 느낌이랄까...

스코틀랜드 전통 보리소주가 있다면 이런느낌일까...

딱히 막 좋은것도 나쁜것도 없다.

그러나 소주대용으로 마시면 아주아주 좋을 위스키!

그리고 이제 이걸 하이볼로 만들어 먹을 기주로 쓴다면 갓성비혜자위스키라 할 수 있겠다.

위스키가 주는 적당한 몰트감과 달큰한 향이 베어있는 맛있는 탄산음료가 되버리는것이당!

업장에서도 하이볼로 엄청 많이 타주는 산토리가쿠빈 한병 가격이 요즘 4만원은 줘야 하니 행사가격 아니더라도 거의 반

가격에, 용량은 더 많으니 혜자가 아닐 수 없다.

2만원 이하라면

와인앤모어 화이팅!?

One freezing cold day late last year,

on my way home from a walk,

I fluttered into that place that's spelled 'Wine & More'

but that a sparrow (isn't 'sparrow' short for 'seriously deranged little so-and-so'?) reads as 'the mill you can never walk past.'

Obviously it was just cold out, so I went in to warm up my body a little, warm up my heart a little, and warm up my wallet a litt- NOOOO!!

Wine & More, late last year

Anyway, while I was warming up and browsing around, I spotted some promo items off to one side, and the price looked weird, so I thought maybe my eyes had fogged up from suddenly

coming into somewhere warm. I rubbed them and looked again, and it was still that price, so I had no choice but to deliberate for quite a long time (like 5 seconds?) before picking up one bottle,

no wait, picking up two bottles, no wait, picking up three bott- s..stop it!!

(Dude, are you a spar.row or what!?)

One bottle, two bottles, three-whaa??

I already knew about it, since word had been going around everywhere that it was a great-value whisky, but I wasn't all that interested. Maybe it was the cold,

maybe it was the price, I don't know, but I think I was under some kind of spell.

Grant's Triple Wood

Grant's Triple Wood

It's a blended Scotch whisky that's presumably a mash-up of whiskies from the distilleries under William Grant & Sons (Glenfiddich, Balvenie and so on).

The bottle even has that triangular shape that makes you think it'll smell and taste like Glenfiddich.

Apparently Grant's Triple Wood uses three types of cask: virgin oak, American oak, and refill bourbon casks.

The cap is, naturally, a screw cap.

Blends belong in a rocks glass, of course

Heh heh, this is gonna be a lot of fun, isn't it!?

Twist off the cap and glug a glass out, and the nose characters are fairly thin overall, a bit of alcohol booze creeps up, and a somewhat unrefined

malty aroma barges in.

But now, if I replay the price I paid in my head and sniff again, a pretty smooth and sweet aroma hangs around.

Blended Scotch Whisky / 40% / 1L / ₩16,500

If you sniff it with that firmly in mind, I don't think there's another whisky that can match it.

The palate matches the nose. The flavour isn't very deep overall, but it has a floral brightness, maltiness and sweetness.

And maybe because it's a blend, it goes down smoothly all the way from the tongue to the gullet.

The finish has a little bit of length, but it's not the kind where you want to hold your breath and keep it trapped in there forever or anything.

Just a bit of sweetness, that's about it.

(Feels like a tasting note written by a tongue and brain that have been completely taken over by the price...)

Drinking it neat, it's kind of, how do I put it...

Like somebody poured barley tea into a blended whisky...

If there were a traditional Scottish barley soju, maybe it would taste like this...

Nothing especially great, nothing especially bad.

But as a soju substitute, it's a really, really good whisky!

And if you use it as a base spirit for highballs, you could call it a god-tier, ridiculously generous value whisky.

It turns into a tasty fizzy drink infused with just the right amount of malt and a mellow sweet aroma from the whisky!

A bottle of Suntory Kakubin, which bars pour into highballs like crazy, costs around ₩40,000 these days, so even at non-sale prices this is almost half

the price with more volume. How could it not be a steal?

If it's under ₩20,000,

Yes to highballs! Yes as a soju substitute!
Next time it's on sale for ₩15,000-16,000 again, I'll buy it instead of soju.
