글렌파클라스 25년

숙성년수대비 임펙트가 부족한 탓인지 상대적으로 인기가 많이 없는 글렌파클라스 25년.

나도 사놓고 한참 손이 안갔었는데 기존에 마시던 병들이 하나씩 비워져가는 참에 뚜따해봄.

그래도 25년이란 세월은 절대 무시할 수 없을 것이기에 기쁜마음으로 시작해본다.

컬러는 잉? 이게? 2_5?? 싶게 밝은 호박색이다.
25년의 세월치곤 굉장히 엷긴하지만, 색이 전부는 아니니까.

한잔 따라놓으면 굉장히 산뜻한 셰리향이 직관적으로 코를 치고 들어온다. 끝에서 옅은 너티함도 느껴짐.
그리고 처음엔 거의 못느꼈는데 10분정도 지나면 향의 끝에서 커피향이 강하게 올라온다. 시간이 지날수록 컴플렉스해짐.
기분나쁜 부즈도 없고, 찌르는듯한 스파이스도 없어서,
적어도 향에서 만큼은 고숙성년수임이 느껴짐.

팔렛에서는 건과류의 기운이 살짝 돌고 버터스카치가 느껴진다.
그리고 향보다 의외로 혀에서 맵싹하다.
도수에서 오는 스파이시는 아니고 오크에서 날법한 스파이시.
나쁘지않지만 개취의 영역에서 무게감이 다소 부족하다.
맛있는편인데 아무래도 25라는 숫자가 자꾸 걸리는것 같다.

피니쉬도 녹진함은 아니지만 그으윽하게 퍼지는 향긋함.
노즈에서 느껴지던 커피향도 계속 묻어있다.

전체적으로는 무난하다 할 수 있을듯.
글렌파클라스 105CS같은 기분좋은 파격은 없지만, 적절하면서도 은근히 끈적한 고숙성 셰리 위스키를 즐길 수 있는 제품이 아닐까 싶다. 숫자에서오는 안정감도 있고😁

글렌피딕의 그랑리제르바21년 같다랄까.

바디감은 크게 없지만, 무난하고 안정감있는 고숙성 위스키.

근데 이 숙성년수에 이 가격이면 이러면 안되는거 아닌가?🧐?

Glenfarclas 25 - relatively unpopular, maybe because it doesn't pack enough impact for its age.

I bought one and didn't touch it for ages myself, but as the bottles I'd been drinking emptied one by one, I finally cracked it open.

Still, 25 years is never something you can dismiss, so I dive in with a happy heart.

The color is... huh? This? 2_5?? - a surprisingly bright amber.
It's really pale for 25 years, but color isn't everything.

Pour a glass and a very fresh, bright sherry aroma comes straight at your nose. There's a light nuttiness at the end too.
And although I barely noticed it at first, after about 10 minutes a strong coffee note rises at the tail end of the aroma. It gets more complex as time goes on.
No nasty booze, no prickly spice,
so at least on the nose, you can tell it's a long-aged whisky.

On the palate, there's a slight hint of dried fruit and nuts, and butterscotch comes through.
And surprisingly, it's spicier on the tongue than on the nose.
Not spice from the ABV, but the kind of spice that comes from the oak.
Not bad, but for my personal taste it's somewhat lacking in weight.
It's on the tasty side, but that number 25 keeps nagging at me.

The finish isn't exactly rich and mellow, but a fragrance spreads out slooowly.
The coffee note from the nose keeps clinging on too.

Overall, I'd call it easygoing.
It doesn't have the delightful audacity of the Glenfarclas 105 CS, but I think it's a bottle where you can enjoy a well-balanced, subtly sticky, long-aged sherry whisky. And there's the reassurance that comes from the number, too😁

Kind of like the Glenfiddich Gran Reserva 21, I'd say.
(But hey, at least the Glenfiddich 21 has pretty packaging, right?🤨)

Not much body, but an easygoing, steady long-aged whisky.

But at this age and this price, shouldn't it be... not like this?🧐?
