올봄에 제주도 갔다오는길에 면세점에서 고민하다 업어옴.

사실 리뉴얼 전 제품도 몇병 마셔봤어서 망설였지만 면세점에서 딱히 살만한것도 안보이고, 최근 리뉴얼된 18년에 크게 실망도 했었고, 얘도 그럼 맛이 변했나 싶은 궁금한 마음에 면세한도 채우려고 두병 중 한병으로 집어왔었다.

리뉴얼 전과 같은 올로로쏘+P.X+포트 캐스크 조합.

드로낙 라인에서 가끔 쓰이는 포트 캐스크가 섞여있기 때문인지 일반적인 드로낙들과는 결이 살짝 다른 제품이긴한데, 16년도 18년때 느꼈던 것 처럼 리뉴얼 전과 후가 좀 다르게 느껴졌음.

노즈는 달달하고 상큼한 자두같은 느낌이 확 들어온다.
상큼한 시트러스 계열. 약간의 쿰쿰 셰리.

팔렛은 시트러스함과, 내가 늘 드로낙에서 느꼈던 케이크 또는 빵의 그 느낌이 잘 살아있다. 맛있음.

피니쉬도 부드러운편이고 건과류스러운 녹진함으로 나쁘지않게 마무리.

전체적으로 밸런스가 좋고 분명 맛있긴한데 역시 이전 16년과는 좀 다르게 느껴진다.
이 짧은 혓바닥으로 느끼는 바로는 올로로쏘와 포트의 비중이 꽤 바뀐 느낌이다.

18년 마셨을때 느꼈지만 글렌드로낙이 주는 올로로쏘 캐릭터의 그 강한 달달함과 쿰쿰함이 리뉴얼 이후의 16년과 18년에선 잘 느껴지지 않는다.

결국 위스키도 개취의 영역이기에 뭐가더좋다나쁘다 할건 아니지만, 최근의 드로낙 제품들은 개인취향에서 조금 벗어나는 모양새.

요즘 출시되는 드로낙은 올로로쏘 캐릭터들이 많이 상실된 느낌이다.
18년도 그렇고 16년도 그렇고 올로로쏘만의 그 달콤하면서 꾸리한 캐릭터가 많이 약해진 느낌.

결론은 리뉴얼 16년은 노즈 쏘쏘 팔렛 좋음 피니쉬 쏘쏘.

뭘까요 레이첼누나 제 코와 혀가 고장이 난걸까요?
아님 올로로쏘 집나갔나요?

Picked this up at the duty-free shop on my way back from Jeju Island this spring, after a lot of hemming and hawing.

Honestly, I'd already had a few bottles of the pre-renewal version so I hesitated, but nothing else at duty-free really caught my eye, I'd recently been massively let down by the renewed 18, and I was curious whether this one had changed too - so I grabbed it as one of two bottles to max out my duty-free allowance.

Same Oloroso + PX + Port cask combo as before the renewal.

Maybe because of the port casks GlenDronach occasionally throws into its line-up, this one has always been a slightly different breed from the usual Dronachs, but just like with the 18, the 16 felt a bit different before and after the renewal.

The nose hits you right away with something sweet and tangy, like plums.
Zesty citrus notes. A touch of funky sherry.

On the palate, the citrus and that cake-or-bread vibe I've always gotten from GlenDronach are alive and well. Tasty.

The finish is on the soft side too, wrapping up decently with a rich, dried-fruit-and-nut density.

Overall it's well balanced and definitely delicious, but again it feels a bit different from the old 16.
As far as this humble little tongue can tell, the ratio between the oloroso and the port seems to have shifted quite a bit.

I noticed it with the 18 too: that bold sweetness and funk of GlenDronach's oloroso character just doesn't really come through in the post-renewal 16 and 18.

At the end of the day whisky is all about personal taste, so it's not about which is better or worse, but recent Dronach releases seem to be drifting a little away from my own preferences.

The Dronachs coming out these days feel like they've lost a lot of their oloroso character.
Both the 18 and the 16 - that sweet yet funky character unique to oloroso feels a lot weaker.

Verdict: the renewed 16 - nose so-so, palate good, finish so-so.

What is it, Big Sis Rachel? Are my nose and tongue broken?
Or did the oloroso run away from home?
